Mad Men, is it wrong to have a desire to live it?

As an advertising major I have started devouring everything that I can find that happens to do with journalism. Out of the few mainstream television shows that have to do with the advertising field, Mad Men is the best. But the biggest question that must be asked is whether or not it portrays advertising in a flattering light? I would have to say that it does because it is not entirely commentating on the advertising field at the time but society in general.

U.K. Television (A cock tease for your eyes)

Over the last few years I have found many great British sitcoms. I started out with the original Office and Coupling. Recently I have found a new Brit show called The Inbetweeners. It is a bloody brilliant teen comedy that centers around a witty and by the book former private school kid named Will. His friends and him are neither nerds nor cool kids in their 12th year (surprisingly not the British senior year) hence the name. It is full of jokes that are smarter than one would expect to find in a teen comedy and the never ending teen pursuit of pulling (hooking up) is used in a unique way.

Another brilliant show is Skins. It follows the ”ordinary”  lives of a group of kids in Bristol and each show centers on one of the characters. It’s in its third series (Season) and features a new cast from the one in the last two that included Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire fame. It’s full of Drugs, Sex, and Drama. It is one of my guilty pleasure series (The OC, Footballer’s Wives included).

The Catch

There is just one thing that drives a fan of U.K. television nuts and this is the fact that on average U.K. sitcoms usually only have 6 episodes a series and last for two series. They get you really interested and involved and then cut you off when it’s getting good, hence the title for this post. The Office, Gavin and Stacey, Skins, Extras, No Heroics all have this problem.
